interactive web performance
BETWEEN_ on the web

Let’s imagine a space structure as follows:
The Earth is a part of the universe and the universe is conversely a part of the Earth. In other words, the Earth is in the universe, but at the same time the universe is re-discovered in the middle of the Earth. The surface of the Earth as a kind of marginal line becomes an explicit boundary between the Earth and the universe, but they paradoxically include each other. Without beginning or end, only such a virtual circulation between them is repeated as a spatial transition. On the basis of this figurative transition, segmented parts of a human body can move unrestrictedly, as if they were innumerable star fragments in space.
Howool Baek has been interested in the theme „Repetition and Transformation“ and hence she creates her new choreographic work Between as an interactive Web-Performance in collaboration with her artist colleagues, Matthias Erian and Jin Lee. In this work, she would introduce a new type of performance characterized by the Binaural Sound-Technique as well as the Online-Interaction on the Internet to the audience. As a result of such a choreographic experiment, the audience enters the online virtual space as a subjective, autonomous player and moves there of their own free will by means of mouse and keyboard interactions. In this sense, Between would aesthetically and technically reflect our contemporaneity: The digital age.
